Orchard
There are 19 trees in the orchard at Surrey Docks Farm, with several varieties of apple trees, as well as a quince, plum and damson quetsch.
About the orchard
We planted the orchard back in 1990. The trees were carefully chosen to give a long season of harvest. We normally stock farm-grown apples and fruits in our Farm Shop from September onwards.
The trees were grown with semi-dwarfing rootstocks. This is a special growing system, in which the roots of another smaller tree are used at the base of the apple trees. This particular method is useful, because left to their own devices, the apples would be far too high to reach!
