We rely on a dedicated team of gardening volunteers to support our community growing projects and gardens.
Our Volunteers
Surrey Docks Farm relies upon a team of enthusiastic gardening volunteers to help look after our green spaces and keep the gardens looking their best. We have a wide range of green spaces which need tending throughout the year, whatever the weather. We only use organic gardening methods and are always looking to get the most out of our spaces.
Garden volunteers are part of two key groups that meet on Wednesday and Sunday mornings. We also welcome some long term independent gardeners who help on an adhoc basis and independent watering volunteers that enable us to keep on top of watering duties during the Spring and Summer months.
Gardening Group - Wednesday and Sunday Mornings
The Sunday group is led by Pat and supports Plot to Shop. The Wednesday team is led by Kate and will support all the gardening projects across the Farm. Volunteers help with routine tasks from cleaning plant pots, to potting on plants for sale, weeding around the youth beds, watering, cutting back hedges and more! It’s a social group with opportunities to take part in a range of tasks that help our wider community gardening projects.
The Sunday team is led by Pat and will support our Plot to Shop project, focusing on growing plants and produce to sell in our farm shop. Tasks will be seasonal, and over the first few months you’ll be helping prick out seedlings, pot up plants into modules and prep plants for sale.
We’re ideally looking for a weekly commitment, or a minimum of two mornings a month.
Please be aware, volunteers will be working across the busy, public farm site and must be able to follow instructions, quickly take on new tasks and work independently in a relatively high risk environment.
Solo Watering Volunteers
We need independent volunteers who can help on a set morning once a week to water the plants!
This will include using a watering can to water indoor plants; and a hose to water inside the greenhouse, the outside pots and (as required) the food growing raised beds.
We need watering volunteers every day, but particularly on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and weekends at present.
Please be aware, volunteers will be working across the busy, public farm site and must be able to follow instructions, quickly take on new tasks and work independently in a relatively high risk environment.
